plant leaf engravingsnothing with skin is blind. 2008.For 'nothing with skin is blind', South African conceptual artist Kai Lossgott has made minute incisions, punctures and impressions into the tissue of plant leaves to form texts and images which are only visible against the light. Displayed in lightboxes, the leaves gleam. One of the texts makes reference to "the inheritance of light". "Shoot," proclaims another, "in spring his heart / is open as a gun". "I suspect that on a cellular level our bodies recall the evolutionary stage when we were plants, and that this influences our perception of the world in ways we are not aware of. It is through the similarities in plant, human and animal biological processes that I draw into question the boundaries between different forms of sentient life and where exactly consciousness begins." order your own special plant leaf engraving |
