July 2008

A special year, which I guess is what you feel like when you get your life given back to you and you can get down to doing what other people consider normal.

nothing with skin is blind showed in the Rainforest Room at Gordart in Johannesburg during April.

cull ' tivate was shown at the ABSA Atelier Awards 2008 in Johannesburg.

sound, sleep and the first leaf were exhibited together at the SASOL New Signatures Award 2008 in Pretoria and at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees.

I was asked to develop a new piece by Sanford Shaman of the Bell-Roberts Gallery in Cape Town, for their definitive show Print '08: Myth, Memory and the Archive, opening in August. The result was talking to the tree outside my window while I sleep.

Through the artist's networking site www.artreview.com, I got the opportunity to take part in The Exquisite Corpse Project, a collaboration between artists from 25 countries, started by the Brazilian video artist Kika Nicolela. Chech out her channel Dilema Studio on YouTube. The project is a video version of the surrealist game of the same name, whereby different people draw parts of the same body, which are then pieced together to bizarre and often comic effect. The project will be exhibited at Formverk in Nyköping, Sweden.

alpha and Bawo Thixo Somandla will be showing at The 6th flEXiff (first and last Experimental film festival) 2002 - 2022, Sydney, 19 - 21 September, and at the 11th annual Antimatter Underground Film Festival, Victoria, BC, Canada, 19 - 27 September. alpha is also part of the programme at INVIDEO XVIII Edition, Milan, November 12 - 16.

So I graduated last month, with distinction and a very favourable examiner's report that called my novel "a remarkable achievement". It has had favourable reactions from publishers. And I'm still not telling you the title.

I am also negotiating to have my poetry collection finally published.
