site-specific performance with experimental cinema, live interactive sound, movement and puppetry

alive & dying. 2010.

The inhabitants of an inner city apartment block encounter a humanoid sponge puppet, fallen deity of a sublime and chilling urban ecology.  It becomes both perpetrator and victim of their behaviour addiction rituals, survival and self-sabotage. Soundscape and architecture fuse as the sound of the first nine steps on the fire escape become the scale from which the soundtrack is composed. Rigged with a live microphone, it becomes an instrument registering even the slightest impact.

Out the Box Festival. 23 March 2010.  19:00 - 21:00h. Iqonga Programme. Rosedale Quad, UCT Hiddingh Campus.

enough. 2009.

Sometimes you’ve had enough. And sometimes you have enough. A fusion of sound and light, Kai Lossgott’s and Mbali Vilakazi’s authentic and intimate multimedia poetry performance "enough" takes you into the dream cycles of obsessive behaviour and uncomfortable truths in the search for wholeness. It is about the breakdown of society, and people at breaking point.

Badilisha Poetry Xchange! May 2009. Africa Centre, Cape Town.

performance

Unsaid. 2007.

Fear 'chokes us up'. We 'get a frog in our throat'. This performance is about communication or lack there of - what is said, what can be said, what cannot be said, what we are afraid to say, what bottles us up inside. What we say and how we say it has a ripple effect on the people and the environment around us.

Spier Contemporary Art Awards 2007, Cape Town, Johannesburg. Special mention.

House. 2001.

Through the metaphors of high risk acrobatic dance theatre and pyromania, the western obsession with cleaning and conquering is interrogated in a ruined house used as a toilet by local homeless people.
